I’ve led organizations and teams across multifamily, affordable, military, and student housing, as well as sales, marketing, and technology. I’ve worked on both the operator and supplier sides of the business, where I learned what it takes to turn strategy into results.

AN UNUSUAL PATH BUILT A DIFFERENT KIND OF LEADER.
The way I lead was shaped long before I had a title.
Maria’s perspective was shaped long before she entered the C-suite. She grew up in a military family as the daughter of a United States Marine. Her background reinforced adaptability, discipline, preparedness, and resilience.
Later, her service as a firefighter and in Search & Rescue added another dimension to her leadership philosophy: remain aware, assess the situation, communicate clearly, trust the team, and act when action is required. Those lessons followed her into business.
So did something else. A dog named Gunner.
Those experiences sharpened the perspective I bring to business: when conditions change and people are counting on you, leadership has to show up in your decisions and actions.

And then Gunner gave me a new way to see it.
After more than three decades of executive leadership, Maria did not expect one of her most memorable leadership teachers to have four legs.
Working and training with Gunner began revealing familiar leadership principles from an entirely different perspective — trust, communication, judgment, accountability, performance, resilience, and purpose.
The lessons were not new. The perspective was.

Knowing what to do is only the beginning.
Most organizations have smart people and good intentions. The harder work is making sound decisions, having the necessary conversations, and following through consistently.
Here are a few things I believe:

These beliefs guide my work whether I’m advising an executive, coaching a leader, working with a team, or speaking to a room full of people ready for a new perspective.
